Polysorbate 20

Polysorbate 20 is a non-ionic surfactant that acts as a gentle, non irritating emulsifier. It is used to emulsify oils in water and can be used in body or room sprays, creams, lotions and other formulations. It is highly recommended for emulsifying essential oils as it preserves the integrity and properties of the oil.

Polysorbate 20 (common commercial brand names isTween 20) is a polysorbate surfactant whose stability and relative non-toxicity allows it to be used as a detergent and emulsifier in a number of domestic, scientific, and pharmacological applications.

Polysorbate 20 is used as a high HLB emulsifier in combination with a variety low HLB emulsifiers to cover a wide range of oil in water, and water in oil emulsion systems. Alone, it is an excellent solubilizer of essential oils, a wetting agent, viscosity modifier, stabilizer and dispersing agent.
