Sorbitan Stearate

Sorbitan monostearate is an ester of sorbitan and stearic acid. It is primarily used as an emulsifier to keep water and oils mixed. Sorbitan monostearate is used in the manufacture of food and healthcare products, and is a non-ionic surfactant with emulsifying, dispersing, and wetting properties.

Sorbitan tristearate is a nonionic surfactant. It is permitted as a food additive in fine bakery wares, toppings and coatings, fat emulsions, milk and cream analogues, beverage whiteners, edible ices, desserts, sugar confectionery including chocolate, emulsified sauces, dietary food supplements, chewing gum and dietetic foods.
